DoorDash Storefront alternative: your own app instead of a DoorDash page

The main alternative to DoorDash Storefront is ordering you own outright. Storefront, now called DoorDash Online Ordering, charges no commission but only works for restaurants with an active DoorDash store, and the customer stays a DoorDash customer. Nomback gives you your own App Store app with a stamp card and push deals for $99 a month, no commission.

How it works

  1. Keep your DoorDash store for new customers while your own app is built, which takes about two weeks.
  2. Put a QR card in every DoorDash bag that offers a free item on the first order in your app.
  3. Repeat customers order in your app at $0 commission, and push deals bring them back on slow nights.

The fine print that matters

DoorDash says Online Ordering "is available to restaurants with an active DoorDash store". So Storefront doesn't get you off DoorDash. It sits next to your Marketplace listing, and every order that still comes through the DoorDash app pays 15%, 25% or 30% on delivery (DoorDash pricing).

On a delivery order through Storefront, the customer pays DoorDash's delivery and service fees, and the order page is DoorDash's. If you cancel your Marketplace store, Storefront goes with it. With your own app, the listing, the customer list and the push channel stay yours whatever you do with DoorDash.

When DoorDash Storefront is the better pick

Be honest about the trade. If you only want a cheap web order page, have no interest in an app or a loyalty program, and plan to stay on DoorDash anyway, the $0 Starter tier costs less than Nomback in month one. You pay about $1.29 to process a $30 order (3.3% + 30¢) and nothing else.

Nomback is the better fit when the goal is to own the regulars: an app on their phone with your name on it, a stamp card that rewards ordering direct, and a push message you can send on a slow Tuesday without paying anyone a cut.

Questions owners ask

Is DoorDash Storefront really commission-free?

Yes for orders placed through the Storefront page itself. You still pay card processing of 2.9% or 3.3% plus 30 cents, and the customer pays DoorDash's fees on delivery orders.

Can I use DoorDash Storefront without being on DoorDash?

No. DoorDash says Online Ordering is available to restaurants with an active DoorDash store, so you keep a Marketplace listing and its 15% to 30% delivery commission.

What is the difference between Storefront and my own app?

Storefront is a web ordering page run by DoorDash. Your own app sits on the customer's home screen under your name, with a stamp card and push notifications, and it doesn't depend on a DoorDash account.

Can I keep DoorDash and add Nomback?

Yes, and most owners do. DoorDash keeps finding new customers, and a QR card in every bag moves the ones who come back into your app at no commission.

Does Nomback do delivery?

You can deliver with your own drivers today. Delivery through DoorDash Drive is coming soon, and we won't call it live until it is.

How long does it take to switch?

Your app is usually live in about two weeks. You don't need to turn anything off on DoorDash while it's built.
