DoorDash vs Uber Eats vs Grubhub for restaurants in 2026
DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub cost restaurants about the same on their middle plans: 25% of a delivery order on DoorDash Plus and Uber Eats Plus, and at least 25% on Grubhub Plus with Grubhub delivery (15% marketing plus delivery from 10%). The cheapest entry plans differ more: DoorDash Basic at 15%, Uber Eats Lite at 20%, and Grubhub Basic at 5% plus delivery. For pickup, DoorDash charges 6% and Uber Eats 7%, both requiring in-store prices. Since fees are this close, the right app is the one most of a restaurant's local customers already use, and the bigger saving comes from moving regulars to the restaurant's own ordering.
Which delivery app charges restaurants the least?
On delivery with the app's drivers, DoorDash Basic at 15% is the lowest headline rate (DoorDash). Grubhub Basic is 5% marketing, but Grubhub delivery starts at 10% on top, so at least 15% (Grubhub). Uber Eats Lite is 20% (Uber Eats). Lower plans come with less visibility and higher delivery fees for the customer.
What does each app take from a $40 delivery order?
Before processing fees.
| Plan level | DoorDash | Uber Eats | Grubhub (with its delivery) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry | $6.00 (15%) | $8.00 (20%) | $6.00 and up (5% + 10%) |
| Middle | $10.00 (25%) | $10.00 (25%) | $10.00 and up (15% + 10%) |
| Top | $12.00 (30%) | $12.00 (30%) | $12.00 and up (20% + 10%) |
| Pickup | $2.40 (6%) | $2.80 (7%) | Not listed |
Which app is best if the restaurant has its own drivers?
Grubhub charges no delivery fee when the restaurant delivers itself, leaving only the 5%, 15% or 20% marketing rate. Uber Eats charges 15% for self-delivery. DoorDash also supports self-delivery; check its current rate with a DoorDash rep. A shop with its own drivers would pay the lowest headline rate on Grubhub Basic, at 5%.
Should a restaurant be on all three apps?
Being on more apps means more tablets, more menus to keep in sync and more commission, for overlapping customers. Many independents pick the one or two apps their area actually uses, and send everything else to their own app or website at no commission.
Who pays for promotions on each app?
The restaurant. Uber says merchants pay for the offers they run, and calculates its fee on the post-promotion amount (Uber).
The fourth option: your own ordering
On the restaurant's own app, the same $40 order costs about $1.46 in card fees and nothing else. At the middle plan of any of the three apps, that's $8.54 more kept per order. Full breakdowns: DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub.
