First year, all in, for a small restaurant with an app

Say 200 app orders a month at $30, so $6,000 a month in app sales. Plan, setup and card fees for 12 months:

PlatformFirst year
IanOS$3,348 ($1,188 plan + $2,160 at 3%)
Nomback$4,395 ($1,188 plan + $399 setup + $2,808 Stripe)
UpMenu (210-order tier + app + loyalty)$1,884 plus card fees it doesn't publish
ChowNow$5,687 to $6,307
Owner.com$6,588 before any card processing

For comparison, the same $72,000 a year through DoorDash at 15% to 30% is $10,800 to $21,600 in commission.

How to pick

If you only need people to order from a link on your website or Google profile, use what your POS already has: Square or Clover. It costs nothing extra.

If you want your regulars to have your app on their phone, with push notifications and a reward that brings them back, you need one of the app platforms. Of the ones that publish every fee, IanOS is the cheapest per year and includes a POS. Nomback costs a bit more, builds everything for you, and sells monthly memberships like a $9.99 slice-a-day plan. UpMenu is the cheapest if you set it up yourself and stay under its order caps.

Before you sign anything, ask three questions: Is there a contract? Who owns the customer list? What is the card rate in writing?
