Square online ordering fees for restaurants in 2026
Square online ordering is free to add on any Square plan and charges no commission. You pay card processing of 3.3% + 30 cents per online order on the free plan, or 2.9% + 30 cents on Square Plus ($49 a month per location) and Premium ($149), plus a courier fee if you turn on delivery through DoorDash, Nash or Uber. On a $40 pickup order that is $1.62 on the free plan and $1.46 on a paid plan. Square dropped its separate Square Online and Square for Restaurants price lists in 2026; one ladder of Free, Plus, Premium and Pro now covers everything, and the old $29 and $79 online tiers are gone.
How much does Square online ordering cost per month?
Nothing on top of your Square plan. The ordering page is included at every tier (Square). The plans themselves, per location and as published in October 2026 (Square for Restaurants pricing):
| Plan | Monthly | In person | Online |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 2.6% + 15¢ | 3.3% + 30¢ |
| Plus | $49 | 2.5% + 15¢ | 2.9% + 30¢ |
| Premium | $149 | 2.4% + 15¢ | 2.9% + 30¢ |
| Pro | Custom, over $250,000 a year | Custom | Custom |
Restaurant add-ons are extra: kitchen display screens at $30 a device on Plus or $20 on Premium, a kiosk at $99 a device, inventory at $99 a location. Text marketing is bundled (500 texts on Plus, 2,500 on Premium, then 1.5 to 3 cents each).
Does Square charge a commission or per-order fee?
No. Square's online ordering page claims up to 30% savings against marketplace commission, and the footnote confirms the comparison is against a 30% third-party rate (Square). There is no Square-imposed fee on the customer either: any service fee a guest sees on a Square ordering page was set by the restaurant in its delivery and service fee settings (Square help).
When does the $49 Plus plan pay for itself?
Plus lowers online processing from 3.3% to 2.9%, which is 16 cents on a $40 order. $49 divided by 16 cents is about 306 orders, so a restaurant doing more than roughly 300 online orders a month at $40 saves money on Plus from the processing alone, before counting the lower in-person rate. Below that, stay on Free.
What does delivery cost through Square Online?
Square books a courier for you: DoorDash, Nash (Square's own aggregator), or Uber under advanced options, with "best available" picking between DoorDash and Nash (Square help). Square's current pages say the courier fee varies by provider and can be charged to the customer or the restaurant depending on how you set up fees; no dollar amount is published. When the program launched in 2020 the structure was a flat DoorDash delivery fee plus $1.50 per order to Square, paid by the seller (Square, Dec 2020). Whether the $1.50 still applies in 2026 isn't stated, so ask before you turn it on. For comparison, DoorDash Drive bought directly is $6.99 to $10.99 per delivery (DoorDash Drive explained).
What does a $40 Square online order cost the restaurant?
$1.62 on Free, $1.46 on Plus or Premium, and you keep the rest. At 600 orders a month that is $972 on Free, or $49 + $876 = $925 on Plus. The same 600 orders on DoorDash's 25% Plus plan cost $6,000 (DoorDash fees).
Is Square online ordering good for a restaurant?
If you already ring up sales on Square, it is the cheapest way to take orders online: no monthly fee on Free, no commission, and the order shows on your Square POS. The limits are the same as Toast's: it is an ordering website, not an app with your name on the customer's phone, there are no push notifications, and loyalty lives in the $49 Plus plan or above. Square's processing is also higher than Stripe's 2.9% + 30 cents on the free plan.
Square online ordering vs an app of your own
Nomback is $99 a month with a $399 setup, no commission and Stripe's 2.9% + 30 cents, for an iPhone and Android app under your restaurant's name with a stamp card and push deals built in (pricing). At 600 orders it costs $975 a month against Square Plus at $925: about the same money, with the difference being an app regulars open on purpose instead of a page they have to find. Orders print on a kitchen printer, or land on your register if you're on Clover (Clover). A Square restaurant can keep Square for the counter and add the app for the regulars.
